So....this is the first oil painting I actually managed to finish, at least of the portraits. My current project is a self-portrait that I've messed up and redone so many times I don't know if it will ever get done.
This painting is approximately 24" by 24". I used a very basic palette of colors, and if I weren't lazy I could even go back through my paint box and tell you which ones they were. The painting was done from a 3"x5" photograph. I chose this particular photograph because I thought it was very representative of the subject. She was a person who hid a lot of herself and didn't like being looked at, so I wanted to capture that in the portrait. Although she is shading her face from the sun, I focused on giving the impression that from just the right angle one might be able to see her eyes under her hands.

Depending on the calibration of your monitor, the painting may come out more yellow/brown than it is in reality. I may try to get a better photograph at a later date when I have more work to post.

I've officially decided that this LiveJournal will be my art blog. I have too many blogs already, most of which are relegated to the usual snark. So here's the latest (cross-posted from MySpace):
I'm not too good at sculpture, but playing in the snow is so much fun! I love seeing all the adults off work frolicking around like kids. My neighborhood was peaceful and quiet yesterday except for the occasional echo of laughter through the hills. After spending most of the day at Dragonfly, I went home and decided to indulge my 10-year-old side and built a snowwoman in the parking lot of my apartment building. Here she is in all her mediocre glory:

So I'm not the best sculptor in the world, but I think you can get the idea a little bit. Thanks to the snowlady I met a couple of my neighbors, had a wonderful time, and almost got my fingers and toes frostbitten off. Good times! I promise I will commence with my usual snarkiness soon...the snow puts me in entirely too pleasant a mood.
*This one is part deux because Lizzie and I built the first two snowwomen when she visited me here during a crazy snow and ice storm early in 2004.

Hate Language Is So Gay

I am trying to figure out how to pseudo-customize my page. I am making this post for the purpose of adjusting my colors so that it no longer appears that a particularly flamboyant gay man has vomited on my page. I may succeed. I may not. Then, I might eventually decide for what purpose I should use this LJ. Suggestions are welcome. Yes, I am fully aware that it is utterly hideous in its current state.
